Road Tripping with Mom & Dad

Mom & Dad recently went on vacation but this time I got to go along! In three years this was my very first official Delameter road trip and I was so excited.

Back in the spring Mom and Dad bought me a vacation house on wheels that they call a pop-up truck camper and named her Taquito. I LOVE going camping in Taquito. It’s very small so I can be right next to them all of the time and the bed is so fun. It’s up above so Mom & Dad lift me up each night so I get to sleep with them all night. It’s perfect. We get to go to so many fun places that we can’t go to in my main house. That’s right, I am a very spoiled dog having two houses to call my own.

During the year we were able to go off on many short adventures but this time around we were gone for two full weeks. It was heaven to be able to spend every day, all day, with Mom & Dad.

We started off at Dave, Anne, & Max’s house to hang out with our good friends but then quickly hightailed it into the backcountry.

A road closure changed up our route but as Dad says, that is all part of the adventure. I didn’t care. I was cozy in the back seat of the truck on my big cushy pad and was just enjoying the ride.

When we got to Trout Creek I didn’t think things could get any better. We got a primo site right on the river with a big tree for shade. We were all alone except for the rafting groups that came to put in their boats on the Deschutes River but evenings and mornings were absolutely peaceful.

I didn’t have to walk on a leash but was free to wander. I learned how to cross something Dad called cow guards over the road. We slept in and napped and went for long hikes. Dad and I fished and mom cooked up wonderful food.

After a few days, we moved on to a place also called Deschutes River but up by the Columbia Gorge. It was green and lush with a path along that river that had so many places where I could get in the water! We hiked and hiked and slept and ate a lot more.

But, then things changed again! We got in the truck and headed to a place called Walla Walla in Washington state. Now, first of all, they brought me to a dog park and I did NOT like that at all. I’m a very sensitive boy and am quite shy. After just a few minutes Mom realized the energy of the doggies in the park was too much for me and we headed downtown. There was so much to sniff.

Mom & Dad did some wine tasting and got dinner takeout so we could go back to our spot for the night. The next day was a very full day of more wine tasting where I practiced being the best boy cafe dog. Sometimes I get a bit impatient but it was really nice and I was tired. All of that traveling is exhausting for an old black dog.

We stayed at a brewery that night with a lovely field to run around in and then we were off yet again!

Mom & Dad had a business meeting they had to do so after some nice long walks around the waterfront walkway I spent a day napping, which was much needed after so much excitement. Then, it was time to head back towards home but not before we stayed a couple of nights on the John Day River. More hiking and napping and just hanging out with the family. It was perfect.

We got back home to rain but that was okay by me. Mom & Dad had to go back to work and I was able to finally spend my days in bed as I’m used to. My birthday is coming up soon and I’ll be 10 years old so I need my beauty rest.

I’m sure there will be more weekends in the near future but I’ve heard Mom & Dad mention another road trip in the spring to another area. I better rest up now in preparation.
