After a VERY busy summer here at the resort, life is beginning to move at a slightly slower pace. To celebrate mom & dad took me TENT CAMPING. Now, you probably know we live in a lovely travel trailer, which I like to think of as my own personal safe place. Generally, when we go on our weekend trips we either stay with grandma & grandpa or friends in Portland. When we go camping in other spots we simply hook up and take our trailer with us.
This was different. We only had time for one night away and mom and dad said we were going to sleep in a tent. I wasn’t sure what exactly a tent was but I’m embracing my role as an adventure dog and was eager to get in the truck and just GO.
We headed out to a place called Brown Memorial Campground. It was only about 30 minutes from home AND best of all it was on the Siletz River.
We quickly got set up and headed to the water. Now, you’ve probably seen the photos of me online where I’m often wading in the ocean. What I hadn’t yet come to realize at my advanced age of nearly nine years old is that I can actually SWIM.
Oh, the delight! I immediately waded out into the serene Siletz River when dad tossed a stick out just a bit further out. I went in a bit further but got a bit nervous when I couldn’t touch the bottom. Next, my dad tossed it out just a bit further and as my feet could no longer find traction I started swimming.
And I couldn’t get enough.
The next 24 hours were spent swimming, roaming about our little area of the campground, going on walks with mom & dad, and supervising rousing games of some game they call cornhole where they throw these little baggies at a piece of wood with a hole in it. Humans are so weird.
I was positively exhausted from my full day and wanted to check out this place they called a tent pretty early but mom & dad stayed up by the fire until 8 pm! I had on my camper pajamas so was comfy and hung out with them but I really just wanted to go to bed.
They finally joined me in the tent and we all just had the best time cuddling all night.
It was misty and cool in the morning but more walks more playing and breakfast around the campfire. Bliss.
Too soon it was time to head home but I know I’ll be back swimming soon.
