Welcome back! It’s unbelievable to think it’s been six years since the last BDC post. Back then, Aspen was still living the dream traveling Mexico and Guatemala with mom & dad. After they all returned to the United States and mom & dad went back to work she led a more leisurely life as campground ambassador while still enjoying winters in Baja.
I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Ryder and I’m the new face & voice of BDC. You’ll learn more about me in later posts but first I thought I’d catch everyone up on what happened over the last few years.
When this blog was last updated Aspen was sweating away in Puerto Vallarta. What followed was an epic journey spanning thousands of miles and two countries. She spent months touring the high altitudes of Mexico’s colonial hill towns.
From there she and her pack headed further south to one of her favorite spots at San Cristobal de las Casas deep in the south end of the country.
Guatemala proved challenging on another level while dealing with locals with a penchant for fireworks in the square but she thrived with lake swimming, Sunday afternoons touring villages around the lake, and even assisting in the volunteer house building project mom & dad worked on.
After three months at the lake, the family headed back north through Mexico to explore more and spend another winter on the beaches of Baja before entering the USA for the first time in over 18 months.
Although the adventures weren’t as grand, she still lived a pretty darn-perfect black dog life. Mom & dad worked at campgrounds and resorts in Idaho, California, and Oregon while still taking time for the beaches of Baja, which I’m told was her favorite place in the world.
From what I understand, she and mom had an amazing bond and while I know I can’t take her place, I’m thrilled to be part of the pack and eager to share my adventures.
Mom & dad tell me I’m the fourth black dog here on BDC and I know I have some big paws to fill for sure. As a bit of a talker, mom says I have a lot to say so I may as well share it with the world.
My first post is honoring those black dogs that came before me so cheers to Maddy, Porter, and Aspen~ all rescue dogs enjoying their best life to the end.
