B y Aspen ~
Although Porter and I both love to eat, I am the acknowledged porker here in the house, so I am taking on this post! Mom and dad think our health is super important, and so they make sure to feed us really good food. The kibble we get to eat is by Infinia, and we often get to choose between some delicious flavors like Salmon and Sweet Potato, Bison and potato, and Chicken and Wild Rice! Dad grumps about how expensive it is, but he is awfully happy that our shedding has greatly subsided and everyone comments on how fantastic our coats look.
Infinia Holistic dog food is super healthy. Made with all natural ingredients, and not all the corn meal and filler that the majority of dog foods have, mom says it’s well worth the price. You know, she does call us her fur babies 🙂 With only fresh, never frozen meat and a large number of vegetables added in, along vitamins and minerals but never soy or meat by-products.
The one negative that happened when mom and dad changed us to this food is that I get less! We started out getting fed the same amount as we’d gotten of our old food, but we both got pretty chubby, in fact the vet said that dreaded word, DIET, and I knew I was screwed! To compensate, mom started adding carrots and some other veggies for extra bulk without all the calories and I LOVE that. Porter was a lot pickier at first but he’s come to realize it’s all good, just different. The one thing we both don’t like much is lettuce and green beans, that is unless they’re cooked 🙂
After we had our very own class on Traveling Dogs at Overland Expo in the spring, mom and dad realized they needed to start feeding us a bigger variety of food, because once on the road we certainly won’t be able to get our usual dog food, and from what other doggie travelers say, maybe not any good quality dog food at all. I can’t even begin to say how thrilled I am with this development! Mom reduced our kibble quantity even a little more than before but now we get a mix of all sorts of good stuff! They change it up but on any given meal we might get the addition of carrots, sugar snap peas, sweet potatoes, cooked rice, tuna, yogurt, leftover meat from their dinner, or, last night, the leftover skin of a baked potato! Heaven in a bowl. Porter gets a glucosamine since he’s a little older, and we both get a fish oil pill. I just eat mine but picky Porter won’t eat his unless it’s cut open and the liquid spread over his food. What a prima dona!
Meal time has taken on a whole new meaning! At this point, I can’t wait to hit the road for many reasons, one being just being able to spend all of our time as a pack, but the idea of eating even more variety than this every day ranks a close second. And, lets be honest, sometimes it ranks first!
In the meantime, we are super thrilled to have our high quality Infinia dog food available. All other doggies should try to get their parents to buy it for them. Their coats will shine. They will barely shed. And they will have an extra little perk to their step, and it tastes great. Whats not to love?!
