On our recent roadtrip with mom and dad, we got to see SO many different places. They said we drove over 3000 miles and, I don’t know exactly what that means, but I do know we spent a lot of time in the car. I guess it’s all good practice for driving to South America. Apparently that is ten times further!
We stayed at a lot of really interesting campsites, but one that was truly unique was actually in the middle of Las Vegas, on what they call “the strip”. I don’t know exactly what “the strip” means, but I do know Las Vegas was the biggest city I’d ever been in and it seemed liked we drove forever, all while still being in town! Mom and dad mentioned wandering through a few new casinos but I don’t understand why, since apparently they’re so stupid they don’t allow dogs. What’s that all about?
I do know – it was HOT HOT HOT and this so-called campground was basically just a big parking lot of huge RV’s lined up, not really to my liking at all and NOTHING like where we normally camp. I started to get pretty nervous, afraid Aspen and I would just be way to hot, but I should have known better. Dad came back in from registering us to complain about the exorbitant amount of money he paid to get us a space with trees and some grass. He mentioned this to Aspen and I with quite a stern voice, like it was OUR fault we were staying there, but I know he was just kidding. Especially because he and mom enjoyed spending the afternoon hanging out in the shade with us too!
Now, I he to say, this campsite didn’t have much going for it in my mind, but what it did have was an off-leash doggie run area. After being unable to run freely for over a week, Aspen and I just ran and ran in circles until we were panting. Aspen even tried out the doggie agility course and I truly don’t understand how that fat girl can barely climb into the back of the subaru but she can jump over a fence!
After all that running around we were super hot and sweaty and when mom and dad opened up a little gate above a ramp, we thought we were going somewhere special. I have to say I’m not to happy to admit they fooled me! Aspen just goes anywhere and is happy but I am pretty particular and a bath was certainly not on my agenda for the day. I would never admit it to mom and dad, but after the heat of the day, I have to admit the Scooby shower felt really good. But don’t tell on me!
After the sun went down we ate dinner and it cooled down in the camper. Aspen and I have our very own fan above our bed and we snuggled in while mom and dad went out and looked at whatever a casino is. The next day it was even hotter when we woke up but, no worries, we hit the road and continued on to our next adventure!
Hey,
I just stumbled on your page and love the documentary of your travels through your dogs eyes. We are also traveling with our older dog Carlos who looks quite like Porter. Happy Travels-Woof!
Thanks for stopping by! I’ll check out your page, and Carlos. Perhaps he would like to join the Dogs on the Road interview series 🙂 Happy tails and trails.
Sure, we have been on the road with Carlos for nearly three weeks. Started from Portland and today we cross into California. The only obligation is a couple weeks in Tahoe. Then we connect the dots of friends and family across the country. Hope to make it to Florida by Thanksgiving. Our daughter is there. Please keep us posted. Thanks.
