A Tale of Coming Home

By Porter –

Now that I’ve lived with mom and dad for over a year, I think it’s finally safe for me to talk about my scary time before I met them. You see, I don’t remember a lot of my previous life, and I think it’s because it was so stressful for me. For instance, I’m not sure how I ended up having to live on the streets, I just remember being picked up by some men, who were nice enough, but drove a very scary truck with a cage in the back and they put me back there! Next thing you know I was put into a different cage, in a building, and was terrified I was going to be stuck there forever! This all happened in some town they call Klamath Falls. It’s quite a long way from where I live now.

Camping Review – Pacific City, Oregon

By Aspen-

Mommy and daddy have taken us to Pacific City twice in the last month and I am still not sure whether I like it or not. On the one hand, the beach IS just across the street from the campground, but it seems to be very popular and because there are so many people, cars, and other dogs on the beach, mom and dad don’t let me to run off leash like I want. I know that I should come to them every time that they call, but I just get so distracted sometimes that it’s hard to remember.

Weekend Here We Come!

By Aspen & Porter

The weekend is here and it’s an amazing October in Oregon! We are loving the warm, sunny days to play in our yard while mom & dad are at work and, best of all, when it’s chilly out they especially like to cuddle with us at night.  Mom & dad haven’t told us what we’re up to yet for this upcoming weekend, but we’re sure it will be wonderful because our pack will be together!

Campground Review – Nehalem Bay State Park, Oregon

By Porter –  If we had to choose a favorite campground by number of visits, Nehalem Bay State Park would be the certain winner! On the Oregon coast, Nehalem Bay is a typical Oregon State Park, featuring well-maintained sites, good facilities, and a variety of dog friendly activities. What I like best about Nehalem Bay is that there are often large herds of Elk that come through the campground between the actual campground and the beach. This makes for EXCELLENT smelling and marking opportunities. There is a wonderful 4 mile long spit of beach to play on and, even better, at one end is the town of Manzanita. They love dogs there and have many restaurants with outdoor seating as well as a wonderful pet store, Four Paws on the Beach that I like to browse and check out new toys.

Campground Review – La Pine State Park, Oregon

By Aspen

La Pine State Park is an adventure dog paradise! With the wonderful climate of the high desert area of Central Oregon, La Pine borders the Deschutes River and offers something for everyone.  I loved this place because I got to do all the things I love most; hike, swim, and even play in the fenced dog area.  They have some small, wooden houses and apparently two of them allow well behaved dogs, but we stayed in our own camper, which I like better anyway. Porter was a little bit worked up over the chipmunks that were absolutely everywhere but they didn’t bother me.

Hello World!

Welcome to The Black Dog Chronicles, a website about all things dog, from the perspective of two black dogs! We were lucky enough to be adopted by our parents, Jim & Rhonda, and live as one big, happy pack in Oregon. We love hiking, camping, and just spending time hanging out with our parents. We will be giving a one to four paw review on all things dog related; kibbles, dog parks, campgrounds, toys, and the list goes on!  We hope you follow us along on our adventure.
